Renowned Somali Artist Luul Jeylaani Passes Away in the United States

Luul Jeylaani Ali, a celebrated member of Somalia’s Waaberi National Troupe, has reportedly passed away in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, according to multiple reliable sources.

Luul Jeylaani was renowned for her mastery of Banaadiri songs and her compelling theatrical performances that vividly portrayed Somali life and culture. Her work left an indelible mark on Somali art and culture.

Former colleagues of the late artist expressed their condolences, mourning the loss of a talented and beloved figure in Somali music and theater.

In 2018, Luul Jeylaani returned to Somalia after spending 28 years abroad. Like many artists, she left the country following the collapse of the military government in the early 1990s. Her return was a celebrated moment, marking her enduring connection to her homeland despite decades of absence.
