Puntland Vice President Announces Plans to Improve Road Infrastructure and Boost Trade at Bosaso Port.

The Vice President of Puntland State, Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing road networks to facilitate the movement of goods from the Bosaso Port, a key economic hub in the Bari region. Speaking at a conference focused on infrastructure development, Lugatoor emphasized the importance of improving transportation to enhance economic growth in Puntland.

The Vice President acknowledged the financial challenges in funding large-scale road projects, noting that Puntland does not have the capacity to take on significant debt for infrastructure. Instead, he stated that the administration is prioritizing the efficient collection and utilization of domestic revenue to support these initiatives.

“Our government is dedicated to strengthening economic opportunities that arise from the goods entering through Bosaso Port,” said Lugatoor. He further outlined plans to boost trade and streamline operations at the port, which serves as a lifeline for Puntland’s economy.

Lugatoor also highlighted plans for the development of Garacad Port in 2025, which will include the construction of berths to accommodate larger ships and vessels. He described this project as part of broader efforts to expand maritime infrastructure and drive economic growth in Puntland.

The Vice President concluded by urging local stakeholders to support these efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving Puntland’s economic goals.
