PSF Forces withdraw from Bosaso base as Puntland troops take control

Puntland Security Force (PSF) personnel have withdrawn from their long-held base in Bosaso, with Puntland security forces taking control of the facility following negotiations aimed at preventing armed confrontation in the city.

According to local reports and eyewitnesses, the PSF vacated the base, which it had occupied for more than two decades, after talks held over recent hours to de-escalate tensions in Bosaso, the commercial hub of Bari region.

The facility has since been taken over by Puntland Defence Forces, marking the latest development in the ongoing dispute between the Puntland administration and the PSF.

The withdrawal comes amid months of heightened tensions between Puntland authorities and the PSF, a force that local media reports describe as operating under the Federal Government of Somalia.

In recent days, Puntland forces have also assumed control of other installations previously used by the PSF, including facilities in Galkayo and Bosaso.

The movement of forces follows a period of growing political and security tensions between Puntland and the Federal Government, with concerns that the standoff could lead to armed clashes.

As of Thursday, PSF officials had not publicly commented on the withdrawal or the takeover of the bases.

The latest developments are expected to ease immediate tensions in Bosaso, although the broader dispute over the status and command of the PSF remains unresolved.
