Puntland Elections :Puntland Presidential Hopefuls Unveil Visions in Parliament Campaign Speeches
As the Puntland Regional Government gears up for its upcoming election on Monday, presidential candidates took center stage at the House of Representatives to deliver compelling campaign speeches. The 6th Parliament of Puntland is actively involved in selecting the candidates who will vie for the positions of President and Deputy.
The Election Committee, overseeing this crucial process, has registered 11 candidates running for the presidency. The candidates, in their speeches, have been highlighting their performance, background, and visions for Puntland’s future. The intense competition this year has brought a level of controversy and enthusiasm not seen in previous contests.
Amidst the fervor, there are indications that some candidates might opt for compromise before the actual vote. The anticipation of a tight race has led to strategic alliances and handshake agreements among candidates, particularly those with the shared goal of challenging the incumbent, Said Abdullahi Deni.
Deni, who secured victory in the 2019 election in Garowe, faces stiff competition, including from former President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gas. The political landscape is further complicated by the involvement of influential figures such as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, ministers from Deni’s government, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, and other prominent individuals.
Stay tuned for updates as Puntland navigates through this pivotal electoral process.
