Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held a high-level meeting with federal and Hirshabelle regional security commanders to discuss accelerating military operations against Al-Shabaab in central Somalia.
During the meeting, the President received a briefing on the security situation and ongoing military campaigns in Hirshabelle State. He subsequently instructed commanders to intensify efforts to recapture areas still under Al-Shabaab control.
President Hassan Sheikh encouraged both federal and regional forces to “strengthen ongoing operations in the Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions” , describing the fight against the militant group as “a national priority” .
The meeting comes as the federal government continues troop movements and military preparations across parts of Hirshabelle, with officials pledging to reclaim territories currently held by Al-Shabaab.
Somali authorities have repeatedly stated that expanded military operations, supported by local communities and regional forces, remain central to efforts aimed at restoring security and state authority in areas affected by militant activity.
