President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is set to visit the city of Baladweyne to engage in discussions aimed at addressing the grievances of the Hiiraan community regarding the Hir-Shabelle State administration.
Member of Parliament Abdirahman Gurey, delivering a message from President Mohamud, urged the traditional elders of Hiiraan to prepare for the dialogue, emphasizing the importance of finding a lasting solution to the community’s concerns.
MP Gurey stated that political division is not an option when a sustainable resolution can be achieved through dialogue. He emphasized that security matters should be handled by the federal government to ensure peace and stability in the region.
“We conveyed the President’s message that security should be handed over to the federal government and a platform should be set in Baladweyne to discuss and address the issues. The federal government should not be negotiated with on matters of security; it should take charge. We have met with the President twice,” said MP Abdirahman Gurey.
Traditional elders, politicians, and other stakeholders from the Hiiraan region have previously voiced criticisms against the Hir-Shabelle State administration. Ongoing meetings aim to resolve these concerns and foster unity and understanding.
