Popular Somali Comedian Ajakis passes on in Mogadishu after short illness.

Abdi Muriidi Dheere (Ajakis), a popular comedian, has died in Mogadishu today.

He was taken to Yardimeli Hospital in Mogadishu where he was treated for fever before he passed on.

Speaking to Mustaqbal, Universal TV Director Abdullahi Hirsi Kulmiye was asking the Somali people in general to pray for the late Abdi Muriidi Dheere (Ajakis).

“May God have mercy on our brother Abdi Muriidi Dheere Ajakis who was ill these days. He was taken to hospital and died. I ask the Somali people to pray for the deceased,” said Abdullahi Hirsi Kulmiye without delving into the nature of the illness.

Abdi Muriidi Dheere Ajakis was one of the people who did not leave the country during the devastation and civil war, and he acted in popular dramas. Abdi Muriidi (Ajakis) has played a major role in the translation of foreign films and series into Mother Tongue to be enjoyed by viewers who do not know foreign languages.

His episodes were witty and funny, often played in entertainment joints where he enjoyed mass fans.
He played important role in the development of the entertaining and local artists industry, given the viewers entertaining encounter on day to day life in the local set up, even at a time when there was instability in local film industry
