One killed, two injured in explosion at construction site in Beledweyne

An explosion caused by a suspected landmine killed one person and injured two others at a construction site in Buundo Weyn neighbourhood of Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan region, local sources reported.

The explosion occurred earlier Wednesday morning at a location reportedly being used by construction workers as a gathering and equipment storage area. The device was said to have been planted at the construction site before detonating.

According to multiple local sources, one person was killed in the blast while two others sustained injuries. Emergency assistance was provided to those affected, although further details about their condition were not immediately available.

The incident caused concern in the neighbourhood, with the circumstances surrounding the placement of the explosive device remaining unclear.

Security authorities in Beledweyne have launched operations to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of having knowledge of or involvement in the explosion, according to local reports.

Authorities had not issued an official statement providing further details about the incident, including the identity of those responsible or a possible motive.

The blast comes amid broader security concerns in parts of Hiiraan, where authorities and security forces continue efforts to prevent attacks and maintain security in and around Beledweyne.
