Mogadishu Mayor Pledges Tax System Reforms During Meeting with Traders.

The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, met with local traders on Monday to address their concerns regarding the city’s tax collection system. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration between the local administration and the business community to enhance the economic environment in the capital.

During the discussions, traders highlighted challenges they face, including inefficiencies in the tax system and security threats that impact their operations. They also shared grievances about tax harassment from terrorist groups, which has compounded the financial burden on their businesses.

Mayor Amir praised the traders for their resilience and dedication to Mogadishu’s economic growth despite these difficulties. He acknowledged their vital role in the city’s recovery and pledged to implement reforms to the tax system to ensure fairness and transparency.

“We recognize the hardships you face and are committed to improving the tax system to support your businesses and ensure a conducive environment for trade,” said Mayor Amir.

The Mayor also emphasized the administration’s efforts to enhance security in Mogadishu, noting that addressing threats from terrorist groups is crucial to fostering a thriving business environment.

This engagement is part of the Banadir administration’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with the private sector and address systemic issues that hinder economic development in Somalia’s capital.
