Mahad Mohamed Sheikh Hassan has been elected Speaker of the South West State House of Representatives after securing a decisive victory in a parliamentary vote held in Baidoa.
According to the election results, Mahad received 70 votes, comfortably defeating his main rival, Abdihakim Mahmoud, who garnered 25 votes.
The election marks a significant step in South West State’s ongoing political transition and institutional development, as the regional administration moves forward with its leadership formation process.
Following the announcement of the results, fellow candidate Abdihakim Fiqi congratulated the newly elected Speaker, acknowledging the outcome and wishing him success in his new role.
In his acceptance remarks, Mahad thanked members of parliament for the confidence they placed in him and pledged to serve all lawmakers regardless of how they voted.
