Jowhar: Roadside Bomb Explosion Kills Seven in Somalia

In a Saturday morning incident, seven civilians lost their lives and four others sustained injuries when a passenger vehicle traveling from Jowhar to Mogadishu struck a roadside bomb planted by Al-Shabaab militants. The explosion occurred near Raaxoi village, north of Balad.

The minibus, which was en route to Mogadishu, was severely damaged in the blast. Among the injured were three civilians and the driver. The explosion is part of a troubling pattern of attacks by the militant group, which continues to target civilian areas with increasing frequency.

This latest attack follows on the heels of a devastating terrorist strike on Friday evening at Mogadishu’s Lido Beach. The assault, which was also claimed by Al-Shabaab, resulted in the deaths of 32 people, including one soldier, and left 63 others wounded. The beach, a popular destination for locals and tourists, was hit by a suicide bomber followed by gunfire.

In response to these events, there has been a heightened call for a stronger local security presence and cooperation by the public to address the growing threat posed by militant groups.
