Somali journalist Bashir Mohamed Abdullahi, who worked with Arlaadi Media in Baydhabo, has reportedly died from injuries sustained during fighting in the city on September 3.
Bashir was receiving treatment at a hospital in Baydhabo, while efforts were underway to transfer him to Mogadishu for specialized further medical care.
He was confirmed to have succumbed to his injuries, prompting condolences from fellow journalists, government officials, politicians, and members of the community who knew him.
Bashir was among 71 people injured in Thursday’s fighting in Baydhabo. Other casualties from the clashes remain hospitalized and continue to receive medical treatment.
Aid agencies have recently warned that the fighting in Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State, could trigger a new wave of displacement.
Officials from several humanitarian organizations said the latest clashes in the city have caused deaths and injuries while increasing fear among civilians caught in the fighting.
