Ghana Police in Mogadishu to support AUSSOM operations

Members of the Ghana Police Force arrived in Mogadishu yesterday to take part in the African Union mission in Somalia (AUSSOM)

In a statement released by the AUSSOM mission, it was reported that the troops will contribute to maintaining peace, stability and security in Somalia. They are expected to be deployed in Mogadishu, Baidoa and Beledweyne

The contingent will specifically support and participate in training activities provided to Somalia’s security forces with a focus on the Somali Police.

Speaking to the newly arrived officers, the Police Coordinator of AUSSOM, Dr. Samuel Asiedu Okanta, urged them to demonstrate discipline, professionalism, and strict adherence to the regulations governing the mission.

“Show discipline, demonstrate professionalism, and strictly adhere to the regulations governing the mission.”he said

AUSSOM includes participation from different African countries, and it supports Somalia in the areas of security the fight against terrorism, and the training of the country’s armed and security forces.
