Federal Government Forces conduct Security operations in Baidoa ahead of South West leadership elections

Security forces of the Federal Government of Somalia, working alongside South West State’s Darwish forces, have carried out security operations across several neighborhoods in Baidoa, the capital of Bay Region, as authorities seek to strengthen security ahead of key political events.

According to local officials, the operations were “aimed at enhancing security in the city in anticipation of the upcoming elections for the Speaker of the South West State House of Representatives and the region’s top leadership positions” . The measures are also intended to prevent activities that could threaten public safety and stability.

The security operations come amid heightened tensions in Baidoa following a recent attack reportedly carried out by forces loyal to former South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen. Since that confrontation, security has been significantly reinforced throughout the regional capital.

Authorities have also increased the number of checkpoints across the city, where vehicles and pedestrians are being screened as part of efforts to prevent potential security incidents.

No official statement has yet been issued by senior security commanders overseeing the operations. However, residents reported a noticeable increase in the presence of security personnel in several parts of the city.

Baidoa remains a focal point of political activity as preparations continue for the leadership elections, with authorities emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability during the electoral process.

Further details are expected as security officials continue implementing measures aimed at safeguarding the city and ensuring a peaceful political transition.Headline Options:
