Deni denies Bossaso Port closure claims, says Exports continue uninterrupted

The President of Puntland State of Somalia Said Abdullahi Deni, addressed reports regarding the closure of the Bossaso Port in the Bari region.

Deni said that the port remains openand that exports of livestock and other goods are still ongoing. He also stated that no new taxes have been introduced.

According to Deni, Puntland has not increased taxes, but has imposed a fee on vessels mostly foreign ships that arrive at the Bossaso port, explaining that this practice is similar to that used in other international ports.

“We have not increased taxes, but we have imposed a fee on ships mostly foreign vessels that arrive at the Bossaso Port, just like in other ports around the world,” said President Said Abdullahi Deni.

He acknowledged that some traders have raised complaints, saying the administration is aware of their concerns and is ready to resolve them.

“There is a law: you cannot close or reopen business when you want We must always think of the public interest,” Deni said.

His comments come amid reports from traders and residents in Bossaso stating that the port has allegedly been closed for more than ten days, alongside the shutdown of some commercial areas within the city.
