Chinese Government hands over $139,318.45 to Somalia to support the people affected by Floods

The Chinese government today handed over 139,318.45 to the Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency to contribute to the ongoing efforts to support flood-affected people. The handing over ceremony was held at Hotel Decale in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.The Chinese ambassador to Somalia, Fei Shengchao who handed over the money promised support from the Chinese government to the Somali people affected by the floods.

The ambassador, who made a brief speech at the event, said that the Chinese government always stands by the Somali people who are in this difficult situation, saying that aid and support will start soon, and will also participate in the construction of infrastructure damaged by the heavy rains.

SODMA commissioner, who gave a brief speech at the occasion of the handover of the money, thanked the people, the government and the Chinese ambassador to Somalia, indicating that the government of Somalia and the government of China have a historical relationship.

The commissioner also asked the international governments to help the Somali people who have been affected by floods and long-term conflicts, as some regions of the country have experienced heavy rains.
