Military movements are reportedly rising in Beled Hawo district in Somalia’s Gedo region, where forces of Federal Government and Jubbaland are engaged in opposing movements.
Multiple sources said the two sides are competing for control of Beled Hawo, which is currently held by forces loyal to former Jubbaland security official Abdirashid Janan, who has reportedly reached an agreement with the Jubbaland administration but has not fully transferred his forces.
Reports also indicate that both sides are seeking to persuade soldiers to defect and join their respective forces as they attempt to strengthen their positions and gain control of the town.
Residents have expressed concern over the growing military mobilization, warning that the opposing forces could clash at any time.
Other reports say some forces that previously served under Abdirashid Janan have refused to join Jubbaland. The troops are reportedly still inside Beled Hawo and are in possession of weapons and military vehicles.
