AFRICOM Chief Calls for Sustainable Support to Somali Forces Amid Funding Gaps

The Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael Langley, has expressed firm optimism that international partners will collaborate to address funding shortfalls affecting the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Speaking at a digital press briefing during the 2025 African Chiefs of Defense Conference, General Langley highlighted the critical role of sustained financial support in maintaining the operational effectiveness of Somali security forces in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.

He underscored that international momentum must not waver at this pivotal stage, especially as Somalia moves toward greater self-reliance in securing its territory.
