The head of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mahad Mohamed Salad, reportedly visited and held behind-the-scenes talks with opposition politicians particularly former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre who was at his residence in the Barmuudow neighborhood of Mogadishu.
According reports clashes between government forces and armed elements affiliated with the opposition politicians reportedly erupted at the house for several hours, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Diplomatic efforts led by government officials, with Mahad Salad at the forefront, were said to have succeeded in persuading former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre to leave the residence in Hawlwadag and return to his earlier home in the area near Adde Stadium.
Mahad Salaad also reportedly provided assurances regarding the former prime minister’s security, noting that Kheyre is among the most prominent figures in the opposition.
The move is widely viewed as an attempt by the authorities to cool tensions and contribute to resolving the ongoing political dispute related to the country’s election issues.
