Political talks in Mogadishu as calm efforts continue in Abdiaziz District

Political meetings are currently taking place in Mogadishu, led by the Federal Government and the opposition leaders aimed at discussing the next political direction following the fighting that occurred in the city yesterday and the efforts made to de-escalate tensions.

In Abdiaziz District of the Benadir Region, meetings are still ongoing, focusing on restoring stability, particularly as the area continues to show signs of the recent clashes.

A joint group of government officials and community elders is also reportedly working to find a lasting solution for the forces currently gathered there after they recently fought in parts of Abdiaziz District.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and several other parties have expressed deep concern over reports of violence in Mogadishu yesterday amid heightened political tensions in Somalia, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and pursue peaceful dialogue to prevent further escalation
