105 seats remains to be elected in Somalia’s lower house polls as one day remains before the lapse of the agreed time limes of the parliamentary elections.

The National Consultative Leaders conference that opened  in Mogadishu on January 1, 2022 agreed to complete the Lower house Parliamentary elections within 40 days.

The National Consultative Council led by federal government of Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and attended by the Presidents of the regional governments and the Governor of Benadir region held a series of meetings to expedite the elections and announced that they would jointly expedite the elections.

The country’s regional governments have thereafter immediately resumed elections with some having begun in the constituency while others had not yet started.

The election of the Northern Regions became the first to be concluded within the stipulated deadlines with the election of 46 members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia to represent the Northern Regions in the 11th Parliament.

On 21 February 2022, the FGS Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble held a closing remarks for the Northern Regions Election, with the last MPs elected on that day.

Abdirahman Idan Yonis became the last member of parliament to be elected in the Lower house constituency of Somaliland while the first member of parliament was Mahdi Guled Qatar.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble praised the election process and sent a message to the country’s regional governments to complete the parliamentary elections on time.

Northern councilors have a 46-member stake in the parliament , with 23 retaining their seats and 23 new members elected .

Women in the Northern  have secured 13 seats representing 28.2%, of the 46 members while Men have 33 seats or 71.7%,of 46 elected members.

The South West regional administration was the first administration to launch a second constituency in which all members of the South West were elected in Barawe.

South West has a stake in  69 MPs in the parliamentary elections and elected 50 MPs with 19 seats remaining which is set to take place in the coming days.

Hirshabelle State became the second State to launch a second constituency. Hirshabelle has 38 seats in the lower house parliament , 14 seats have been elected and 24 seats remain to be elected.

Galmudug has 37 seats and 22 MPs have been elected so far with 15 seats remaining.

For Jubbaland State, the only state that has not kicked off the second round of the elections, has 43 seats, 23 seats were elected  and 20 seats are still up for grabs.

There are 37 seats in Puntland with 15 MPs elected and 22 seats left to be elected .

Of the 170 elected members of the Lower house parliamentary elections, 38 are women, translating to 22.3% of the representation , and 132 seats, or 77.6% are men.

There are 61 members in the new parliament that retained their seats and 109 new members come in the 11th parliament.

With one day left until the deadline of election, there are 105 seats that remain to be elected. Its very unlikely to complete within the timelines 25th February being the deadline day.
