We have received an invitation from Villa Somalia for a meeting between the Leaders of the media and the president whose mandate expired Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, the meeting was attended by officials and media executives, the president and the directors of Villa Somalia in addition it was discussed the challenges and problems facing the media and improving the relations, It also coincided with World Press Freedom Day on 3 May-2021.
We brought the conference to the attention of the abuse and mistreatment by the Haramcad army, which are part of the Somali Police Force (SPF), at the Mustaqbal Media Center KM4 in Mogadishu.
We have informed President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and the media leaders that no solutions has been found to the consequences of the abuse and mistreatment of the Haramcad army! which included torture, threats and equipments taken by the army, as well as the fact that the equipments that have been taken by the police has not been returned so far except for a MacBook Pro computer which was returned by the Benadir regional police commander, Farhan Qarole.
Media leaders jointly informed the president the problem and its magnitude! They supported the resolution of the crisis in Mustaqbal Media and they asked the president that the issue should be resolved as soon as possible, calling it “disgraceful”. And they called on the President to address the issue promptly.
Speaking for more than an hour, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said he was requesting an investigation to be made into the incident and he would take actions.
We would like to thank all the media leaders who attended the meeting for their unwavering support by demanding by resolutions of the crisis in Mustaqbal Media, both in terms of staff and equipment.
