The Prime minister of the federal republic of Somalia, the heads of states of Puntland, Jubbalnad, Galmudug, South West, Hir-Shabelle and the Mayor of Banadir region are today taking a break from the national electoral consultative conference as confirmed to Mustaqbal Media by various sources close to the meeting.
The leaders, who reached an agreement on the electoral talks on May 22, 2021, agreed to hold a ceremony to append their signatures in Mogadishu on Thursday, May 27, 2021, government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Maalimuu confirmed.
The Prime Minister of the federal republic of Somalia and the heads of state and government of the federal republic of Somalia will on Wednesday continue their meetings and consultations with the candidates, various sections of the society and individuals they consider to have a role in the upcoming elections.
Somalia Minister of foreign affairs Mohamed Abdirizak told the United Nations Security Council that a joint agreement had been reached between Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, heads of states and the Benadir region to enable the country to hold parliamentary and presidential elections.
The national consultative meeting that opened on May 22, 2021 was different from previous meetings of the heads of the federal government, state governments and the Benadir region to discuss the country’s elections as acrimony and infighting overcame barriers to negotiations.
But the discussion on the key issues underlying the elections did not take place in the conference hall and this is why this meeting was different from previous meetings as the leaders limited their internal conflicts.
