Somalia’s U.S.-trained elite forces, supported by international partners, have carried out a precision operation against Al-Shabab fighters near War-mahan village in the Lower Shabelle region.
According to security officials, the targeted strike resulted in the neutralization of two militants, while two others were captured alive. Forces also reportedly seized explosives and destroyed militant positions believed to have been used to plan attacks.
Officials stated that the operation was aimed at disrupting insurgent activity and preventing potential threats to nearby strategic locations. War-mahan lies along a key corridor leading to the Balidoogle Airbase, which is situated between Wanlaweyn and Afgooye districts, approximately 60 kilometers west of Mogadishu.
The Lower Shabelle region has remained a frequent focus of military operations as Somali forces, alongside international allies, continue efforts to weaken Al-Shabab’s operational capacity in areas surrounding the capital.
