UN Secretary-General strongly condemns attack on El Baraf camp

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the deadly attack by Al-Shabaab on an ATMIS base under the  Burundi’s special forces in  Middle Shabelle region.

“The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives and to the Government and people of Burundi. He  also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. ” This is stated in a press release issued by the Secretary-General’s spokesman Stéphane Dujarric.

The statement added, “The Secretary-General commends all ATMIS troops and expresses their deepest gratitude for their service and commitment to peace and security in Somalia. The Secretary-General reiterates his call on the international community to provide full support to ATMIS and the Somali security forces in their fight against al-Shabaab. ” said a statement from the UN Secretary-General’s Office
