UK Envoy and Somali Defence Minister Reaffirm Strategic Security Partnership

Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, today received the newly appointed British Ambassador to Somalia, HMA Charles Nicholas King, at Villa Gaashaandhig, in a meeting that underscored the strong security partnership between Somalia and the United Kingdom.

Ambassador King, accompanied by senior officials from the British Embassy in Mogadishu, met with Somali defence officials to review ongoing cooperation in “counter-terrorism, defence sector reform, training programs, and capacity building.”

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to defeating Al-Shabaab and emphasized the importance of collaboration in supporting AUSSOM.

The meeting comes amid growing international support for Somalia’s efforts to rebuild its national security institutions and stabilize the country, especially as the government leads new offensives against Al-Shabaab and expands regional partnerships.

The visit by the UK ambassador was also seen as part of broader diplomatic engagement in support of Somalia’s defence transformation and its integration into regional and continental security mechanisms.
