Top Al-Shabaab Leader Mohamed Mire Jama Killed in Joint Operation in Somalia.

The Somali government has on Thursday afternoon lconfirmed the elimination of Mohamed Mire Jama, also known as Abu Abdrahman, a senior Al-Shabaab leader, in a meticulously planned operation conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA) in collaboration with international partners. The operation took place in the Kunyo Barrow area of the Lower Shabelle region.

The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism issued a statement lauding the success of the mission, describing Jama as one of Al-Shabaab’s top executive committee members. Known for his role as an illegal extortion collector and militia mobilizer, Jama had been a key operative in the militant group for 15 years, holding multiple leadership roles, including serving as Head of the Regions.

“This joint operation marks a significant step in Somalia’s fight against terrorism. Jama was a critical figure in Al-Shabaab, orchestrating militia mobilization and extortion to sustain their operations,” the statement read.

Al-Shabaab has since acknowledged the death of their senior commander, attributing it to a drone strike they allege was carried out by U.S. forces.

Mohamed Mire Jama’s death is a significant blow to Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities and marks progress in Somalia’s ongoing military campaign against the group. The Somali government reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s leadership and restoring peace and stability across the country.

Further details on the operation or other potential targets remain undisclosed as security forces continue their activities in the region.
