Those who violent elections integrity will be personally held accountable, Roble says in meeting with opposition candidates.

The Prime Minister of the federal government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble and the Union of Presidential Candidates were holed up in villa Somalia in an impromptu meeting to discuss the country’s elections following allegations of vote rigging by the Union.

The Union of Candidates has in two separate statements to the media expressed serious concern about the lack of transparency in the country’s elections and how they cannot be satisfied with the current process.

Sources close to the meeting told Mustaqbal that the Prime Minster has expressed strong commitment to held accountable any election official involved in compromising elections integrity .

The Prime Minister reportedly briefed the Union of Candidates’ leaders his ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and shared that he instructed the Election Commission to do their duty in accordance with the electoral procedures and anyone violating the integrity of the election process will be held personally accountable.

“The Prime Minister takes into account the concerns related to the transparency of elections expressed by the Union of Candidates ,sentiments of the Somali people and the international community and promises that the National Consultative Council will have a meeting on how to work together on elections in the country to be held effectively and remedy any mistakes in accordance with the law .”, the Prime Minster reportedly told the meeting.

The Prime Minister said that the State and Federal electoral Commissions will also convene an urgent virtual meeting on Monday to discuss the transparency of the elections and to stress that all those who violate the transparency of the elections will be held accountable and to urge them to carry out their duties in accordance with the agreed electoral procedures.
