Earlier today afternoon, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble held a private meeting with the Federal Indirect Election Implementation Committees (FEIT), State level (SEIT) & Indirect Election Dispute Resolution Committees.

Roble in the virtual meeting told the team that it was a shame that the complaints and feedback received from the ongoing seats of the House of the People of the Somali Parliament contradicted they promises made to the Somali people.

The first Minister of the government of Somalia has spoken to the three National Elections Committees about the transparency of the elections, the co-operation of the Committees and the confidence in the election.

“As you are aware, there have been complaints. We are ashamed. On the first day, you know that you swore by God’s name that you will discharge your duties properly and you promised me, (and the people) but today the two states that have elected some members we have received complaints,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said it was unfortunate that the Committees had lost credibility after numerous complaints received from some seats and even barring some candidates.

“The allegation that the commissions have lost the independence of the electoral administration, if you see a seat that has been rejected or not taken part by their elders you will lose the trust of the people,” Roble said.

“There is a lack of co-operation between the Federal, FEIT and State-level SEIT committees. You are an independent commission and there is no one to control you and seats that do not meet the criteria for election can’t not be held.. ” he added

The ongoing lower house Parliamentary elections in the South West and Galmudug States have raised serious allegations that the process is marred by vote rigging and elections improprieties by the opposition candidates and some delegates and candidates.
