Suspect arrested over Doolow Blast at former prison commander’s house

A man has been reportedly arrested in Doolow, Gedo region, in connection with an explosion that occurred days ago at the home of former Somali Prison’s Commander General Mahad Abdirahman Adan, alias Taliye Shub.

According to reliable sources, the suspect, identified only as Macalimeey, was taken into custody today and is undergoing further questioning over suspected involvement in the incident.

Macalimow is reportedly a close associate of General Shub. Sources said he had been in Mogadishu in the days preceding the attack but returned to Doolow afterward and visited the injured commander at a hospital.

Authorities investigating the case have reportedly seized the suspect’s mobile phones to examine his recent communications, movements and other information that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the blast.

The explosion, which occurred on September 3, destroyed part of General Shub’s residence and sparked widespread concern amid heightened tensions following recent political and security developments in South West State.

The incident has also triggered accusations against foreign governments, particularly Turkey, after some Somali lawmakers alleged that Turkish F-16 fighter jets were responsible for the attack. However, the lawmakers have not presented independently verified evidence supporting the claim.

“We are deeply concerned and strongly condemn the attempted political assassination of General Mahad Abdirahman, whose home in Doolow was bombed by Turkish F-16 aircraft,” said MP Hassan Abdinur, while reading a statement issued by lawmakers meeting in Nairobi

The Federal Government, meanwhile, said in a statement issued on Friday that it was closely monitoring the incident and denied any involvement.

The government said preliminary information gathered by security agencies indicated that the explosions may have resulted from explosive materials being prepared inside a house. It stressed, however, that an official investigation had not yet been completed.

The government also said it would promptly establish an independent fact-finding committee to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding the blast.
