A significant conference aimed at finalizing the governance structure of SSC-Khaatumo is set to commence today in Laascaanood, the capital of the SSC-Khaatumo administration.
The Somali government has announced this important gathering, which is expected to shape the region’s political future.
Security measures have been reportedly heightened in Las Anod, with special forces deployed throughout the city to ensure safety during the conference. The increased security presence aims to maintain order as various stakeholders gather to discuss the governance framework.
The conference is organized by a technical committee composed of eight members appointed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of Somalia. In recent days, this committee has been engaged in consultative meetings in Laascaanood to prepare for the event.
During the conference, the committee will welcome various delegations invited to participate, including some officials from the Somali government who are currently in the SSC-Khaatumo region. Their involvement signifies the importance of collaboration between different levels of governance in Somalia.
This conference comes at a time of intense debate regarding the governance approach for SSC-Khaatumo. Political leaders from the Sanaag region are reportedly planning to join this new governance structure.
Meanwhile, Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has called for an end to interference in the affairs of the Sanaag region, emphasizing the need for local autonomy and stability.
