A military court in Somaliland has today sentenced to death a police officer for killing deputy Commander of the Naval Forces in Somaliland Awdal Region
The incident took place on Wednesday last week in Lawyacaddo town and was said to have been committed after an argument between the police constable and the deceased leading to protests in the area and residents calling justice for the deceased .
The court ruled that constable Dable Ahmed Abdi was guilty of killing commandant Khadar Mohamed Aynanshe in Lowyacaddo area in Awdal region.
The soldier who committed the murder and the soldier who was killed were both members of the Somaliland Coast Guards, and the killing of the suspect caused protests in Awdal region.
Families of both sides in the case were present during the ruling.
In recent years, many officers from various Somaliland forces have been killed by colleague soldiers from the same army, most of whom the courts have sentenced to death.
