Somalia’s top leadership head to Dhusamareb for Galmudug leader’s inauguration

Somalia’s senior Federal Government officials are expected in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, to attend the inauguration of the region’s newly elected leader, Liibaan Axmed Xasan.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and leaders of the Federal Parliament are among the officials expected to attend the ceremony.

Security has been tightened across Dhusamareb ahead of the event, with specialised security forces assigned to protect the visiting national leaders and secure their accommodation and the inauguration venue, according to local sources.

The Dhusamareb police had earlier banned the carrying of firearms within the city as part of security measures ahead of the arrival of government officials and other invited guests.

Following his inauguration, Liibaan faces the task of implementing the promises he made during his election campaign. He is also expected to form a new regional cabinet, with some individuals who supported his campaign reportedly seeking positions in the incoming administration.
