Somalia’s President Pledges Global Leadership and Justice in UN Security Council Role.

In a televised address on Thursday evening, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud outlined the country’s priorities as it assumes its seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The President emphasized Somalia’s commitment to upholding the UN Charter and international law during its tenure, pledging to work in the interests of the African Union (AU) and the Arab League.

“Somalia will be a champion for peace and a voice for the voiceless world,” declared President Mohamud, highlighting the nation’s aspiration to contribute meaningfully to global stability and justice.

President Mohamud reaffirmed Somalia’s dedication to promoting justice on the global stage, a principle he described as integral to the country’s foreign policy. “Our voice at the Security Council will reflect the values of fairness and equity, and we will work to ensure that international decisions are informed by the realities and needs of all member states,” he stated.
