Somalia’s Federal Cabinet Approves Judicial Appointments, Key Bills and Aviation Deal with Oman

The Federal Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia on Thursday held a meeting to review the country’s overall political, security and governance situation, while approving key judicial appointments, legislative proposals and an international cooperation agreement.

During the meeting, the Cabinet approved nominees to serve in the Upper House of the Judiciary in line with Article 145 of the 2026 Federal Constitution. The approved members are Mohamed-Deeq Moalim Adan, Maryan Sheikh Osman, Abdirizack Mohamed Ismail and Abdikadir Ali Moalim.

The Upper House of the Judiciary will also comprise officials who become members by virtue of their positions, including the Chairperson of the Supreme Court, the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court, the Attorney General of the National Prosecution, the chairpersons of the Higher Courts of the Federal Member States, the Benadir Regional Administration, and the Chairperson of the Independent Human Rights Commission.

The Cabinet also approved changes in the education sector by removing the head of the Supreme Education Council and appointing Mohamud Ahmed Jimale as the new chairperson of the council.

The Cabinet in addition endorsed the Culture, Recreation and Entertainment Bill, aimed at promoting and regulating the country’s cultural and creative sectors.

The meeting concluded with the approval of an air transport cooperation agreement between the governments of Somalia and the Sultanate of Oman, a move expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance aviation connectivity between the two countries.
