After 34 years, Somalia has reportedly been removed from the list of countries deemed high-risk for security places that citizens of Western countries are often warned not to visit or approach due to safety concerns.
This improvement in security conditions, along with the recent positive changes in the country, has drawn renewed global attention to stability in Mogadishu, where security-related incidents are increasingly not being reported day by day.
The development is also seen as another step toward strengthening Somalia’s international standing.
In recent years, Somalia has already been taken off lists related to arms-related sanctions, received relief on long-standing debt, and participated in major UN discussions where its leadership gained visibility along with other supportive developments.
Somalia in addition has recently moved toward increased natural resource development. The country has reportedly been placed among nations focusing on harnessing its natural oil and gas production.
Modern ships operated by Turkey are also said to be involved in the process, which is expected to take between 6 and 9 months, according to statements made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
