The federal Government of Somalia has repatriated 148 Somali citizens, including children, who had been stranded in Yemen.
The citizens arrived at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu yesterday, where they were welcomed by top officials from the Federal Government of Somalia.
A plane operated by Yemen’s FlyAden airline transported the citizens from the port city of Aden to Mogadishu on a direct flight.
Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Nadaara, said the citizens had faced difficulties while in Yemen. He noted that their repatriation was made possible through cooperation between the Somali government, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the European Union.
The deputy minister also revealed that the Somali government has repatriated more than 1,500 Somali citizens from abroad since the beginning of this year.
The latest operation highlights the government’s ongoing efforts, in collaboration with international partners, to assist Somali citizens stranded overseas and facilitate their safe return home.
