At least four clerics were reportedly killed while an additional four individuals, including a young child, sustained injuries and were transferred to hospitals in the capital, Mogadishu according to close confidant reports.
Witnesses from the area reported that the clerics were specifically targeted based on clan affiliations, highlighting the ongoing issues related to tribal conflicts in the region.
The attack reportedly took place in a locality known as Xaloole, which falls under the jurisdiction of Warshiikh District.
Residents expressed their fears and anxiety following the incident, as such targeted violence against religious leaders is becoming increasingly common. The local administration is reportedly on high alert and is conducting searches for the perpetrators.
This is not the first incident of this nature in the Xaloole area. In late 2022, a similar attack occurred, where individuals from the same clan were targeted, further demonstrating the pervasive tribal tensions that have plagued Middle Shabelle in recent years.
