Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praises Turkey’s Military support

The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praised Turkey for the support it has shown to Somalia, saying the partnership is clearly reflected in Turkey’s contribution to strengthening Somalia’s forces and other key areas.

President Mohamud stated that Turkey has played a visible and constructive role in Somalia’s development. He added that Somalia is continuing to deepen cooperation with Turkey to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

“It is evident that the Government of Turkey has hugely contributed to our military’s strength and the knowledge of our people. This is part of the modern history of relations between the two countries. The Turkish troops who train us are among the bravest,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

He also said there are no credible reports indicating that Turkey has a military base in Somalia. He noted that the locations often mentioned are mostly believed to be training camps for the Somali armed forces.

Turkey has long been a close ally of Somalia, supporting its security and capacity-building efforts through sustained cooperation in training, logistics, and defense partnership.

Over the years, Ankara has maintained political engagement and practical assistance with the Somali government, reinforcing ties that go beyond military support and focus on Somalia’s broader stability and development
