Somalia Partners with Hormuud Salaam Foundation to Provide Land and Support for 10,000 Displaced Families

The Government of Somalia and Hormuud Salaam Foundation (HSF Somalia) have announced a landmark partnership aimed at supporting 10,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) through the National Solutions Pathways Action Plan. The initiative, unveiled at the High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Forum in Geneva, seeks to provide land for resettlement, vocational training, and job opportunities to help displaced families rebuild their lives.

Under the partnership, HSF Somalia will allocate land for resettlement while offering programs to equip IDPs with vocational skills and employment opportunities, promoting long-term self-reliance and economic integration.

Mohamud A. Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, praised the initiative: “The Hormuud Salaam Foundation’s commitment reaches beyond simply providing land. By offering skills training and jobs, they’re giving 10,000 Somalis the means to build a brighter, more stable future. I also encourage others in the private sector to follow suit for lasting IDP solutions.”

Hormuud Salaam Foundation CEO, Mr. Abdullahi Nur Osman, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the Foundation’s dedication to empowering vulnerable communities. “At Hormuud Salaam Foundation, we believe in creating opportunities that bring lasting change. By providing land, vocational skills training, and employment pathways, we aim to help displaced families reclaim their dignity and pave their way toward self-reliance,” he said.

The partnership forms part of Somalia’s ambitious National Solutions Pathways Action Plan, which aims to bring one million displaced individuals out of displacement across the country. According to Zahra Abdi, Director of Poverty Reduction and Durable Solutions at the Ministry of Planning, the plan employs a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach to address internal displacement comprehensively.

The initiative has also drawn praise from the international community. Robert Piper, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Internal Displacement, and George Conway, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, commended the collaboration as a scalable model for addressing displacement challenges. They called on development partners, international financing institutions, and the private sector to support Somalia’s efforts and ensure alignment with a sustainable financing strategy.

Representatives from countries including Switzerland, the UK, Türkiye, Norway, the EU, and the US, as well as international financial institutions like the World Bank and the African Development Bank, attended the forum. Many applauded the Somali Government and Hormuud Salaam Foundation’s partnership as a crucial step in addressing internal displacement challenges and fostering durable solutions.
