Somalia participates in Arab Intelligence Conference to boost security

In a significant move towards enhancing regional security, Mr. Mahad Mohamed Salad, the Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency of Somalia (NISA) attended the Conference of Heads of Arab Intelligence Services in Baghdad, Iraq.

The conference, which took place yesterday, gathered intelligence leaders from 22 Arab nations.

The primary focus of the conference was to discuss strategies for improving intelligence cooperation among member states.

With a backdrop of escalating security threats, particularly from extremist groups, participants emphasized the necessity for a unified response to these challenges.

Mr. Salad highlighted the importance of information sharing, noting that collaboration is crucial for preempting and countering terrorism effectively.

He underscored that intelligence agencies must work together to build comprehensive databases and resources that can aid in addressing common threats.

In addition to counterterrorism, the conference also aimed at promoting broader Arab unity in tackling various security issues. Discussions included methods for joint training exercises and resource allocation to bolster the capabilities of member states’ intelligence agencies.

The participation of Somali representation at this level underscores the commitment of NISA to align with regional partners. As Somalia continues to confront its own security challenges, forging these alliances can be a pivotal step towards resilience and stability in the Horn of Africa.
