The Federal Government of Somalia’s Council of Ministers held its weekly meeting today in Mogadishu, where reports were presented covering key areas including security, the economy, and politics.
In a press statement following the meeting, the Cabinet heard a report from the Ministry of Internal Security of the Federal Government. The ministry said that the Somali passport reform and modernization plan is progressing well.
The ministry also informed the Council that all amendments to individuals’ data in passports have been completely stopped, in order to protect the passport’s integrity and credibility.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre urged ministers and senior government officials to travel using Somali passports, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the dignity and honor of public office.
Barre specifically praised the Prime Minister’s Deputy (Second) of the country, Jibril Abdishahid Haji, for returning this week a Somali passport and reclaiming the citizenship matter he previously held related to Kenya.
Haji returned passport and said his commitment to the Federal Republic of Somalia remains unwavering, adding that returning the passport reflects his dedication to maintaining clarity in his official role.
“Returning the passport reflects my dedication to maintaining absolute clarity in my public role and my steadfast loyalty to Somalia,” he said.
