The Federal Government of Somalia has imposed financial sanctions on 10 people it accuses of involvement in financing and supporting Al-Shabaab.
The decision was announced in a statement by the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism.
The committee said the individuals had been added to Somalia’s National Financial Sanctions List.
Those named include Abdiaziz Mohamed Hassan alias Lafta-gareen, Mahad Abdirahman Aden, alias Taliye Shub; Hassan Abdi Mohamed, known as Ugaas Hassan; and Ibrahim Aden Ali Najah.
The list also includes Hassan Abdulkadir Mohamed, Abdullahi Ali Watiin, Abdifitah Mahad Abdirahman, Abdimajid Mowlid Hassan, Amin and Abshir Aden Isaaq.
The committee said the sanctions are part of efforts to strengthen the fight against terrorist financing. It warned citizens and institutions to comply with the government’s decision and not to engage with the listed individuals.
The announcement comes amid reports that forces loyal to Laftagareen have carried out attacks in Baidoa, in the Bay region, in recent days.
