Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation (MoIFAR) is convening an Intergenerational Dialogue Forum on Peacebuilding and Governance in Mogadishu, bringing together emerging leaders, women, representatives of marginalised communities, civil society actors, community leaders, experienced practitioners and government officials.
According to state media, the full-day forum is designed to provide “an open and interactive platform for communities to engage directly with government institutions on issues affecting participation, governance and reconciliation”
The dialogue is intended to move beyond traditional consultations, giving participants an opportunity to question how government institutions operate, discuss barriers to meaningful participation and share experiences from their communities.
Participants are also expected to put forward practical recommendations that could help strengthen governance and reconciliation processes across Somalia.
At the centre of the discussions is the question of how Somalia can build governance and reconciliation mechanisms that allow more citizens to participate meaningfully in decision-making and public affairs.
The forum is addressing several key areas, including reconciliation, federalism and local governance, access to government institutions, leadership opportunities and stronger engagement between government and communities.
The Ministry is expected to use recommendations emerging from the discussions to inform its ongoing work on peacebuilding, reconciliation and governance.
The forum reflects broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between government institutions and communities and to create greater opportunities for citizens, particularly groups that have traditionally faced barriers to political and institutional participation, to contribute to Somalia’s governance and peacebuilding processes.
