Somalia’s Defence Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, accompanied by military and police commanders, visited forward operating bases in Bulo-Haji and Harbole in the Lower Jubba region on Tuesday. The visit came in the wake of a significant counter-terrorism operation where national armed forces and Jubbaland regional troops successfully eliminated 100 Al-Shabaab militants who attempted to overrun these strategic bases.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, joined by Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, also visited the area to assess the situation and commend the efforts of the Somali National Army and Jubbaland Darawish forces. The operation marked a major defeat for the Al-Shabaab militants , in an effectively coordinated military response.
During the visit, Prime Minister Barre praised the bravery and dedication of the Somali forces. In recognition of their efforts, he announced a monetary reward for the forces unit, acknowledging their crucial role in repelling the assault and securing the bases.
The visit by top officials, government sources say, underscores the government’s commitment to supporting and acknowledging the contributions of its armed forces in the fight against terrorism. It also reflects ongoing efforts to bolster security and stability in the region amid continued challenges from the group.
