Somali Minister of Defence Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has held talks with China’s Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, in Mogadishu, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting the development of Somalia’s security institutions.
According to officials, the discussions covered Somalia’s ongoing campaign against terrorism, defence cooperation between Mogadishu and Beijing, and efforts to enhance the capabilities of the country’s security institutions.
Minister Fiqi thanked the Chinese government for its continued support to Somalia and welcomed Beijing’s position in support of Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its national security institutions and combat militant groups, while seeking to expand international partnerships in the areas of security, defence and institutional development.
The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations and cooperation across a range of areas, with security and development forming part of their broader bilateral engagement.
