Somalia boosts military budget to enhance national security

The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia,Salah Ahmed Jama, announced a significant increase in the government’s military budget aimed at enhancing national security.

Previously, the government’s spending on the armed forces was set at $170 million, but it has now risen to over $270 million. This increase is expected to strengthen the security forces and their ability to fulfill their duties.

“The army spending used to cost $170 million, but now the government spends over $270 million. This change has occurred during this government’s time; a new forces has been recruited, which includes both police and military,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Salah Ahmed Jama.

In his statement, Jama highlighted that this budgetary shift reflects the current administration’s commitment to improving security across the country.

He pointed out that the increase has facilitated the recruitment of new personnel, integrating both police and military forces into the national defense strategy. This recruitment is part of a broader effort to bolster the country’s security capabilities.

Jama’s remarks come in response to criticisms from opposition parties meeting in Kismayo, who claimed that security was deteriorating in the capital, Mogadishu.

The Deputy Prime Minister refuted these claims, asserting that the efforts of the security forces are crucial to maintaining order and stability in the capital. He emphasized that the government is making tangible progress in addressing security concerns.
