Kuwait denies military role in Iran strikes, rejects claims of fighter jet deployment

Kuwait has rejected reports that it took part in military strikes on Iran, firmly denying claims that it secretly deployed fighter jets to attack Iranian targets earlier this month.

Iran’s Mehr News Agency, citing the Kuwait News Agency (Kuna), reported that Kuwait’s ambassador to the United States, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, wrote to The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, dismissing the newspaper’s report as inaccurate and unfounded.

Calling the allegations “utterly and completely baseless,” the ambassador rejected claims that Kuwait had played any military role in the conflict.

“She affirmed that Kuwait has not participated in any military operations against Iran and has not allowed the use of its territory, airspace, or territorial waters to launch offensive operations,” the Kuwait News Agency said, citing the ambassador’s letter.

The denial follows a WSJ report published on Friday, which cited people familiar with the matter as saying Bahrain and Kuwait had secretly carried out airstrikes on military targets inside Iran in early July. According to the report, the strikes came after Tehran launched missile and drone attacks on what it described as US military assets in Gulf countries.

The strikes targeted drone and missile storage facilities and other military installations in Iran. The newspaper reported that the operation was coordinated with the United Arab Emirates, which allegedly provided intelligence on targets and defensive air cover during the mission.

The report further claimed the attacks marked the first direct military retaliation by Bahrain and Kuwait against Iran.

However, Kuwait has categorically rejected suggestions that it took part in any offensive action against Tehran. However, Bahrain has not publicly responded to the the report.
