Somalia: AS ring Leaders Eliminated in Targeted Operations in Galgaduud

Detailed reports have emerged about a well-coordinated operation carried out last night by organised local forces and government troops in parts of the Galgaduud region, targeting members of the Al-Shabaab group.

The operation, specifically conducted in the vicinity of Budbud town and surrounding areas, focused on senior Al-Shabaab leaders and militants.

Abdi Saney, one of the commanders leading the Macawiisley forces involved in the operations, told state media that the attack was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of high-ranking Al-Shabaab leaders who had retreated from the frontlines to seek refuge.

“We attacked Budbud and its surrounding areas after receiving relevant information from local civilians. These were key leaders who had come from active battle zones seeking rest in their homes, accompanied by other militants for protection, and we neutralized them,” said Abdi Saneey.

He confirmed that nearly ten individuals, including both leaders and militants from the group were killed during the targeted operation. “We found them in their homes,” he added.

Saneey emphasized that the operation was carried out without causing harm to the families of the Al-Shabaab members. “Their wives and children were unharmed. They are innocent civilians and will be protected as part of our national duty,” he assured.

The situation remains tense, and there has been no statement from Al-Shabaab fighters regarding the losses they suffered in the operation, which the allied forces have declared a significant success.
