Somalia and Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two countries, signaling a deepening security partnership.
The agreement was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, though full details of the arrangement have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Officials said the MoU is intended to enhance collaboration between the two defence ministries, potentially covering areas such as training, capacity building, and broader security coordination as Mogadishu continues efforts to strengthen its armed forces.
The development comes at a time when Saudi Arabia has increased diplomatic engagement with Somalia, including reaffirming its support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid heightened regional tensions following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.
